The Uganda team is officially set and heading to Glasgow Scotland to participate in the common wealth games slated to happen from July 23rd to August 2nd as the British high commission more in common campaign enters it's final and most powerful chapter taking it's message of friendship, resilience and shared values from Uganda to the common wealth stage.
Uganda will compete across ten disciplines; para swimming, para power lifting, athletics, Basketball, Judo, Netball, swimming, track cycling and weight lifting.
The delegation includes 5 para athletes making the most inclusive team Uganda in common wealth games history.
The celebratory and stakeholders reception held at the British high commissioner's official residence in Nakasero key leaders in sports, Media, athletes spoke passionately about the journey to Glasgow Scotland.
"We are very proud to be sending team Uganda, a delegation of more than 50 athletes to Glasgow for what will be an extraordinary moment in common wealth sporting history and through our more in common campaign our team had the privilege of stepping into the athletes world lifting weights, training in the pool or stepping into the boxing ring, said Tiffany Kirlew the deputy British high commissioner to Uganda.
"The government is fully committed to facilitating our athletes to ensure they are well taken care of but I ask our athletes to ensure that they do their best,” said Ambrose Tashobya the Chairman of the national council of sports.
"As we gear up, let us carry these values forward, inclusion for all, excellence without limits and unity in diversity; Uganda stands ready, stronger more inclusive and unstoppable,” said Moses Mwase Vice President of the Common wealth games association of Uganda.
The common wealth games stretches back to 1954 before the country formally joined the common wealth in 1962.
For more than seven decades of participation Uganda athletes have accumulated 92 medals, 21 gold, 27 silver and 44 bronze building one of longest and most distinguished common wealth games records on the African continent.
The 2026 common wealth games will take place in Glasgow Scotland from July 23rd- August 2nd featuring 3000 athletes from 74 countries highliting 10 core sports and 6 para sports across iconic venues including scotstoun stadium and Tollcross international swimming centre.
