The ministry of Works and Transport has embarked on major road construction, upgrading and familiarization of road projects to monitor their progress for effective service delivery.
This is evident on Works progressing on the 19kilometre Rwenkunye -Apac and Apac- Lira - Puranga road projects, Luweero - Butalangu Raod 29 kilometers which is 80% completed, Olwiyo - Packwach road rehabilitation project which is 67% completed and most of these road projects are funded by government of Uganda, Islamic development Bank and other partners.
These projects will improve connectivity, trade and movement of people and goods, support social-economic development and reduce travel time in different parts of Uganda, serve highly agricultural areas, cut vehicle costs and improve access to services and mobility.
With the new minister of works and transport Fred Byamukama focusing on project accountability, strict completion deadline and anti corruption measures reflect effective service delivery.
"The minister doesn't need payment or a bribe, I have an open door policy, you can reach me or text at any time, report any official who asks for a bribe, said Fred Byamukama while speaking to road Contractors.
The Ministers remaks came after continued government efforts through the ministry of Works and Transport to strengthen governance on the roads sector where corruption, weak contract management and procurement irregularities have cited for poor quality infrastructure, cost over turns, delayed payment and prolonged completion of major projects but the ministry is committed to resume work on stalled projects to ensure they are completed within contractual timelines.
